The game features more than 140 characters from the Marvel universe. Players are able to create, and have an online or cooperative game, for four players. In Arcade mode you have to obtain the highest number of kills to obtain experience points at the end of the level. There are also special comic book missions obtained with "simulator discs", returning to a moment in a character's past where they face a classic rival. Characters can wear up to four costumes, which can alter the character's statistics. Players will fight in the air, land and water, with fully destructible and interactive environments in more than seventeen locations, traveling through different places on Earth, in other dimensions, and even in the depths of space. The game features alternate endings, affected by the player's decisions throughout the game. These endings are based on whether the player chooses to complete the optional missions. The game is very rewarding for fans of Marvel characters, offering bonuses and winks to fans who are informed about the comics' stories. By building teams with characters with shared histories, they can give team bonuses (for example, choosing Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Ms. Marvel, they form the Avengers and then offer an attack boost bonus for each character). Using particular characters to interact with non-playable characters within the base can provide additional dialogue, as can villains with their nemeses. The game also features trivia games, artwork, and many more references from the Marvel universe. Another feature of the game is that the characters are represented in their Ultimate version, but the world and some villains are represented in their original form.
